Transformation seems straightforward. The caterpillar wraps itself in the chrysalis, dissolves into goo, reassembles itself into a butterfly, and breaks out with beautiful wings.
Easy, right?!
But metaphors aren’t real life. Human transformation is gooey like a perfect brownie and sticky sludge. It’s filled with slips and falls that mar the beauty of our wings. The hard protective shell cracks, splitting open too soon, and we’re left mopping up the spilled bits.
Clean up on aisle 9!
In the midst of transformation, we’ll have a caterpillar day, then a couple of butterfly days, and then spend a week being goo as we work out how that butterfly thing happened.
We do start out as the caterpillar. We do goo around in the middle. We do end as the butterfly.
And… we’re always all three forms at the same time: caterpillar, goo, butterfly.
Though sometimes it feels like we will always be the caterpillar yearning for wings or the goo hiding in our protective chrysalis.
That’s why it’s important to recognize how you are butterflying these days. Think back to where you were at this time last year. What were your goals? What were your dreams? How did you achieve those goals, even if they didn’t turn out the way you hoped? How did your dreams come true, even if they don’t look like you imagined?
There’s still success there. Change happened.
And as for this year, you still have eleven months left to achieve your goals and fulfill your dreams.
(And, just for the record, calendars don’t matter.)
One thing that I know can assist in this process is establishing a habit of exercising your creativity.
And that’s why I created this workshop to help you establish a creative habit. Through this process, we’ll dissolve resistance, undercut overwhelm, and make progress. And with your simple daily-ish action, you’ll find a contentment beginning to shine, patience with yourself as you get through those gooey days, tools to deal with the fear and guilt that arise.
Whatever medium you work in, whatever your age, whatever your identified gender, whatever dream you dream.
