My favorite kitchen tool is a step stool. This magical item transforms my life from “Excuse me? Can you help me reach that?” to an empowered, self-sufficient Housewyfe Who Can Reach Anything!
I mean, except at the grocery store. But that’s why tall people shop, right? Just to help out the shorties!
And that’s me! Vertically challenged. Not tiny, but rather a bit square, or maybe just one of those egg-shaped Weebles, though when I wobble, I sometimes fall down. In my life, I have met people who are shorter than me, but mostly I am the shortest adult that I know.
As such, I spend a lot of time either figuring out how to get something off high shelves or asking someone to get it for me. For the last two years, I lived with a group of people who were all taller than me and so was often in a situation where I couldn’t reach items that other folks had put away in the kitchen. With no room to store a step stool, my favorite mug disappeared into the recesses of a high cabinet. Several bowls went out of use when placed high out of reach. A handy set of tongs helped me reach items in our highest pantry shelf.
